Gov, Wike Dissolve All Boards, Parastatals in Rivers State

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved all boards and parastatals in the state.
A statement issued monday in Port Harcourt by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, said the dissolution was with immediate effect, adding that the dissolved boards are to handover to their various authorities.

He, however, said the boards of Rivers State Waste Management Authority and that of Greater Port Harcourt Authority were not affected.

Meanwhile, Wike has pledged that his administration would work towards the generation of employment opportunities for residents of the state.

The governor also stated that he would only appoint technocrats as Commissioners of Commerce and Industry and Energy, stressing that core politicians were excluded from the two posts. Wike spoke yesterday during a meeting with the Rivers State Entrepreneurs and Investors’ Forum at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

He said employment would help in developing the state’s economy and make the state prosperous.
His words: “This administration is committed to the development of employment opportunities for the unemployed as a way to enhance our economy.
“To achieve employment for our people we shall support small and medium scale businesses.  This will grow the economy of the state as we promised during the electioneering campaigns.”
He assured the people that his administration would stem the tide of the migration of investments outside the state to give life to the economy of the state. He said in his bid to revive the two sea ports in the state, he would embark on visits to the facilities to seek ways to enhance their usefulness to the state’s economy.
